There are facts that one can’t ignore about Jakarta: the traffic, the summer heat (or the flood and puddles of water during rainy season), and there are too many places to shop. How to solve these problems? Take a premium cab (have your hotel order you a car from Silver Bird), go to an air conditioned place, then give in to the shopping temptation.
The Batavia area is always nice to explore, and there are 5 museums in one area. Try some museum hopping: start at Museum of Indonesian Bank and Mandiri Museum. Then walk a bit to Museum Wayang (Puppet Museum), Fatahillah Museum, and if you still have the energy, the Fine Arts museum has a really beautiful collection of paintings and other modern arts.
You can walk back to the Fatahillah Square to have lunch at Batavia Café. The interior design and wall decoration will make you feel like entering the city in its golden days in the 19th century.
Alun-Alun Indonesia and Sarinah Department Store have a great selection of Batik and other Indonesian trinkets great for souvenirs for your loved ones back home. Try to go to Sarinah first then go to Alun-Alun Indonesia for more luxurious items.
Go to nearby Starbucks or some local coffee shops in the lobby to quench your thirst before going to Taman Sari Royal Heritage Spa for a serious massage treatment at 5 PM
After finishing your massage at around 7 PM, have your driver to take you to Harum Manis for dinner. You will experience Indonesian fine dining in a very elegant Javanese-designed restaurant. A true magical way to end your day in Jakarta.
